This course will provide the skills and knowledge required to control vehicle and pedestrian traffic using a stop-slow bat, hand signals and approved communication devices in the resources and infrastructure industries.
Face-to-Face Delivery
• Theory & Simulated Practical:
Approx. 8 hours in the classroom, covering theory and simulated practical components.
Assessment is open book and completed progressively throughout the day.
Two (2) simulation exercises are completed at the end of the day.
• Practical (Industry Placement):
Learners must complete a minimum of 20 hours of on-site practical experience at roadwork sites.
Placement must be supervised by an experienced, accredited Queensland traffic controller.
Placement hours must be completed within the timeframe specified in the Placement Contract (currently 90 days from course commencement).
• Final Assessment:
Conducted after the learner has completed the minimum 20 hours of practical placement.
Assesses knowledge and skills in stop/slow and related duties (approx. 30–60 mins).

This Nationally Recognised course will provide participants with the skills and practical knowledge to set out, monitor and close traffic management plans and traffic guidance schemes in civil construction and maintenance.
It is a requirement of the Department of Transport and Main Roads QLD (TMR) that traffic management implementers renew their Qld TMI card every 3 years.
Verification
• Third Party Report (TPR) with evidence to confirm a minimum of 32 hours of Stop/Slow in the past 12 months and TPR must be supported with:
TGS diagrams
Risk assessments, pre-starts, or toolbox talks signed by the learner
Signage sheets
Face-to-Face Delivery
• Theory: The face-to-face theory is approximately eight (8) hours. The assessment is open book and will be completed gradually throughout the day.

The face-to-face theory is approximately eight (8) hours. The assessment is open book and will be completed gradually throughout the day.
Practical (Industry Placement):
Learners are required to complete three (3) x Traffic Guidance Scheme (TGS) setups on “live sites”.
Practical placement set-ups can be completed in the learner’s own workplace, under the supervision of a current QLD-accredited Traffic Management Implementer (TMI).
• Third Party Report (TPR) with evidence of 3 set-ups within three (3) months post course and each TPR must be supported with:
Signage sheets and/or TGS diagrams
Risk assessments, pre-starts, or toolbox talks signed by the learner
• TPR setups must be as per the unit of competency requirements which includes at least two of the following:
Lane closure,
Lateral shift, and
Implementing a traffic management plan at an intersection.
One of these set-ups must also include the TMI controlling construction vehicles.
